In the wild, Cockatoos eat whatever they find. For this reason, you should include a variety of things in their diet to stay as close to their natural diet as possible. On the other hand, your cockatoo can eat most of the things that you eat.
They mainly feed on seeds, berries, fruits, nuts and flowers. Sometimes, they can thrive on the basic diet of seeds and pellets alone. They don’t require any particular food but need “particular nutrients”. You should add more vegetables and fruits to your cockatoo’s diet. These are sources of additional nutrition.

My all time favorite species of parrot is the Macaw; more specifically the Blue and Gold Macaw. They’re the most vibrant colored parrots, have an amazing ability to mimic joises with supreme clarity and if raised correctly, their temperament is right up there with the Cockatoo’s. But unlike the Cockatoos, the Macaw doesn’t become obsessed with human interaction and is MUCH more manageable.
On a quick side note, if you’re interested in finding out more information about the quirky behaviors of Cockatoos, you might want to check out my newsletter on the topic at my website.

If you want a talking bird here are some things you should consider. Most of the birds who talk are some type of parrot. Not all parrot’s species are talkers, though. Some birds are well renowned for the talking, such as the African Grey parrots and budgies (often known as Parakeets), while others, such as ravens, really don’t have much to say.
The really good choice for a talking bird that isn’t a parrot is the European Starling. They are not expensive (free if you can catch one), legal to keep in most areas, talk well and have a great history on the stage. Starlings are an introduced species in North America, where they were imported for roles in Shakespearean plays. North America has about 200 million starlings. So there is more than enough to go around.
